MUMenTUM - Monday Check in 4

I can't believe MUMenTUM has been flying its flag for a month now, where does the time go? You may ask where has the tum gone? the answer is nowhere!

This time last week I wrote about what I planned for the week ahead and how I would be getting to grips with the Kinect and properly working out with Your Shape: Fitness Evolved. In an ideal world I would have a separate room for using this game, where I could lock the door and complete a workout uninterupted. Give me the slightest excuse and I will take it though, I need some discipline in my life.

So although I didn't manage to use the game throughout last week, it's Monday so I shall start again. Once a week is better than nothing, yeah? No, seriously if I can at least try out all aspects of the game and find the areas that suit me best then I am more likely to go back to it and make it a more regular part of my exercise slog regime.

One point I will make this week is to always remember there is someone worse off than you, after seeing the programme Embarassing Bodies this week. It's all too easy to get down about ourselves although sometimes we all have good reason. I go through stages where I am bothered more than others and seeing this episode made me realise how badly some women can be affected by pregnancy. If anyone didn't see the show it featured a teenage girl who was slim but was left with a horrific overhang of fat after having her baby.  It looked like what you might expect after somebody has lost half their body weight. The girl ended up having an apronectomy (tummy tuck) procedure to cut away the excess skin and tighten her stomach muscles. We all have Mum Tums but I think you will agree this is something else and not something I would have expected to happen to a teenager. I can certainly say it made me look at mine and think well thank goodness it doesn't look like that and require surgery, just a bit of effort on my part is required.

So without further a do ladies I am going to finally practice what I keep preaching about and do a workout! Wish me luck!!

If I can do it you can do it so lets both try & give this exercise thing a go! I'm going to try & aim to go on the Wii fit every day, even if it is only a bit of hula hooping, it's better than nothing and surely I can find 3 minutes to spare in one day??
    Good luck for this week

  2. Thanks for the reality check.
I do think if I lose weight though, that I am going to have that overhang, as I have the basis for it, in terms of flabby skin, thanks to a C section.
You can't see it in the photo on my post as I have beige bridget jones nickers on :-0

Yes I agree! I haven't done it yet as it's impossible with my clingon until he has a sleep!

Lots of luck to you too...:-) xx

Not if you do some exercise at the same time (or yoga moves?). I have a c section scar too, we will always have that definition there where the scar is, it's just getting it more toned and lessening the layer of fat. When you see it during surgery it makes you really realise 'you are what you eat'.

We can do this :-) xx

  6. I agree with what you have been saying, I have been feeling incredibly low the past week or so about the way I look since having Mads but sometimes we do need to have a reality check. At the end of the day I am not disfigured or scarred in any way. I also have a c-section scar- did we all have c-sections?!! xx

  7. It's so true. We are our own harshest critics...it won't take too much for us to get back to how we want to be! Let's go girls!!!

When I was writing it I did think of you (but it wasn't directly aimed at you). You just need some confidence back and that naturally comes with time. At least 3 of us sporting scars! :-) xx

I didn't have a c-section but my old saggy flabby belly is definitely beyond repair however much weight I lose or exercise I do, but I'm hoping to reduce the size of it anyway - and then just 'tuck in' what's left!!

  13. I usually watch that embarrassing bodies but missed this one, sounds terrible. Yes a few less biscuits and cake and a bit more exercise can sort most of out. Hope you enjoyed your work out and are feeling positive about a new week :-) x

  14. I think that after being pregnant our bodies do change, and I certainly think that we should keep things in perspective and accept that we may never be as we were pre-babies, well I know I never will and really would we want to be anyway? This is who we are now, and all we have to do is make the best of what we do have and not get too hung up on what we once were.

I think maybe that I am the oldest of you lovely ladies, it's been 11 years since I had my last child (I have 2 btw 15 &11). I have always been fairly happy with my body, it's never been perfect, but I lived with it happily enough, that is until the last few years when the weight has just seemed to pile on...I'm putting it down to middle age spread.

My willpower too seems to have diminished the older I have gotten, so with the help of you lovely ladies I am hoping to pick myself up, brush myself down and get on with the job in hand....we can do this, I'm sure we can! :) x

  16. I actually have no issue with my mum tum. I have grown quite fond of my wee podge. I do care about my bingo wings as I look like I am about to take flight. If I could trim some flab off those I would be so happy. I hope that things go better for you this week. Just make the target achievable and then try and up it each week. x

Oh I would be tempted to lie and say I did one but I never did in the end. That was down to some bad news in the family and now I don't feel much like doing anything! :-( x

That did make me laugh with the bingo wings! You are right I need to set realistic targets and also take into account my mood on the day etc x
